Hello Kelsey, Since you are in your last year at Talbot, and praying about your future and working in missions, I wanted to greet you from the mission field of north Montebello CA, where we are planting a new church. You can see our blog at http://TheOrchardChristianChurch.blogspot.com
Statistics: I am the only Dallas Seminary graduate living in a cluster of 10 cities directly east of Los Angeles, with well over half a million people: Montebello, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, South San Gabriel, El Monte, South El Monte, Pico Rivera, Downey, Commerce. (The City of Los Angeles has one Dallas grad living in it.)
A new phone book came out recently for the just for the City of Montebello. It lists many churches. Under the 2 categories of "Christian" and "Non-denominational", where we fit, it lists 64 churches- but only 4 are actually in the City of Montebello.
If we had children, we would feel the centrifugal pull even more strongly to places like Whittier. But unless God moves us clearly, we're standing our ground here. We are now increasing our focus on College and Singles ministry.
We had a booth at the SMU spring missions conference at Biola this year, and we would welcome more participation from Biola / Talbot students.
